Alright guys, I got some great news! Our next Meet-Up is right around the corner and is going to be a great format. The event is scheduled on the Neutral Ground calendar is an actual TOURNAMENT. But, this "TOURNAMENT" is a very casual format. For those that may not be familiar with the rules of this particular tournament, here is a quick run-down.
1. It's called a "Draft"
The object of a draft is to "draft" a deck using 3 packs of 15 cards each. Each player builds a 40 card MINIMUM deck, including basic land. Land is supplied. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DRAFT LAND.
2. All players open 1 pack at a time, pick ONLY 1 card out of the pack, and pass the rest of the pack to their left.
3. The player to the left will then pick up the pack and choose ONLY 1 card out of the pack, and pass the rest.
4. This will continue until there are no cards left in the pack and everyone has 15 cards in front of them.
5. Then everyone opens the 2nd pack and repeats the process, but this time pass to the right side.
6. Then everyone opens the 3rd pack and repeats the process.
7. Once everyone has their 45 cards, everyone spreads out to build their decks. Players build their decks by choosing the cards they want to play with it out of their 45 cards.
8. There is no trading cards with other players.
9. There is no trading cards in between or within packs.
10. As for game play, normal rules apply. Individual matches, best 2 out of 3 games.
11. In a tournament, any kind of tournament, there is normally 50 minutes per round. Each round players play a different opponent. Normally winners play winners as the rounds go on, and non-winners play non-winners. (There are no losers in our meet-up)
12. Once there is 1 clear undefeated player, they are declared the winner of the tournament and receive a prize. The tournament is over.
A mouthful, I know. But a lot simpler then I make it out to be and a lot easier to explain in person. The BEST PART of this event is that everything you "draft" you get to keep. The 3 packs we are going to use for this event are 3 packs of ALL FOIL CARDS. SO every card in this event will be foil/ holographic. WE ALL LOVE FOILS.
Last bits of information: there is a fee and a prize for this "Tournament".
Entry: $10 Prize: 1 Box of booster packs (normally split between the top 4 players)
Technically this is a "Tournament" that the store is running and not exactly a "Meet-Up". But, I put this particular tournament on the schedule with this meet-up group in mind. If you're scared this might not be your fortay, then feel free to just come down and hang-out and not play in this event. But, honestly, for only $10 bucks it's not a bad deal if you just "draft" cards you want for your collections and not even play in the event. PERSONALLY, I love these kinds of events because they are more casual and have cards from all different kinds of sets, old and new. The format is different from when you play with your own decks because the games are very different EVERY TIME.
In any case, if you have any questions you know how to reach me. See you soon!

"No one really showed up and the didn't let us in the draft. They did let us have the cards though." -
Joel
"I had a lot of fun and the event was very well run. However, I sorta feel like it was a bait and switch. It was not really a CASUAL draft. There were many players that were pros that were playing fast and furious. As a newbie, it was a bit intimidating. I wouldn't mind a TRUE newcomer's event. But still, I really enjoyed myself."
